Week 14 - Mr. Iz

Hi all,

Isaac is now 3 months old! He's still a big cutie but has been have some problems sleeping (as in he doesn't like sleeping any more). Which means Mommy hasn't been getting too much sleep these days... We took him to the Dr and he is (in the doc's words) "the epitome of a healthy baby". He's starting to teeth (the amount of drool is ridiculous) and just went through a growth spurt so hopefully he's sleep will get back on track soon.

This last week has been quite eventful! Isaac and I took his first trip to UBC. He participated in a research study for the Centre for Infant Cognition. He watched a puppet show designed to answer the question, "Can 3 month olds tell the difference between good and bad". While he watched the puppet show a computer tracked his eye movement to see whether he spent more time looking at the "good" or "bad" character. It was very neat and he did well so I think we'll go back (they have a new study we can participate in every month until 24 months; and no, I did not find out whether Isaac can tell the difference between good and bad). In return, Isaac was awarded his Bachelor of Arts - seems like a fair trade to me!

We also took Isaac to a pediatric ophthalmologist to check out his eye - his left eye is a bit droopy but after a very thorough investigation of his vision, he was given a clean bill of health - his eyesight is good and he doesn't need glasses (yet). And towards the end of the week, Isaacdiscovered his feet! He loves playing with his feet and toes whenever he has the chance.

Here are some videos and pictures with some highlights from our week:

Week 13

The 13th week of life was a little unlucky. He's been having a bit of a rough patch lately (he hasn't been sleeping well at night and has been quite cranky). We think it's due to a growth spurt and developmental changes, plus it doesn't help that he has another cold.  But we still got out every day this week. Our adventures included Izzy's first ride on the Skytrain and walk around downtown, and our first group meet-up at Granville Island. We go for a walk along the sea wall every Wednesday afternoon with our prenatal group and this week we discovered that the Public Market at Granville Island is the perfect place for a post-walk snack (for both Moms and babes!). I've included some pictures including one of our group at the market!

Week 12!

Hi all,

Hard to believe Isaac is over 12 weeks old now! Lots has happened in this last week. We went to Izzy's first major sporting event (a BC Lion's game) and applied for his first passport. He slept 8 hours in a row for the first time, but it seems to have been a one time thing (the time change really messed up his sleep schedule). Isaac is becoming much more independent and can now sit in the Bumbo chair or play on his mat for a few minutes while I make dinner. He also swatted a toy for the first time on purpose this week and we captured it on video!

Hope you enjoy the pictures and videos from this week!

Week 11!

Hi all,

The 11th week of Isaac's life included his first Halloween. We went to a little get together with the other babies/Mom's from our prenatal group (Isaac is the sleepy skeleton on the left) and also went to the Halloween party at Daddy's office. Then we spent Sunday-Wed at Grandma and Grandpa's in Abbotsford. Here are a couple pictures and some videos. As Isaac moves more it's harder to get good pictures and it seems video is the better way to capture the moments! He's becoming more and more vocal and there are lots of smiles! He is sooo close to laughing - you can hear it in the 'Morning After' video below.

Week 9

This week was Izzy's first time dressing up in a costume! Our little skeleton took a trip on the Ghost Train in Stanley Park with 4 of his friends (he liked the costume, I just think the cranky photo makes him look like a scary skeleton!). He also visited a pumpkin patch and rolled over for the first time - not just front to back, but also back to front! He seems to be quite mechanically skilled and loves to exercise on the couch and in his bath. We bought a swing this week and Iz seems to like it - it makes him look like a little rabbit.

Also here is a video link I meant to send in the last email.

Week 8

Hi all,

Here are some photos from Izzy's 8th week of life. His Baba visited and we all went to the apple festival at UBC. Hard to believe our little guy is 2 months old!

Love,
Melisa, Evan, and Mr. Iz

PS Stay tuned for week 9 coming shortly!

Week 7

Here are some pics from this past week! He loves laying on his change table and kicking - we get lots of smiles! We also find that swaddling him helps him sleep.

Ooops - he's up from his nap so I gotta run - enjoy!

Melisa, Evan, and Isaac

Weeks 5 and 6!

Hi all,

It seems that some of you noted the absence of a 5 week email so here are weeks 5 and 6 together!

We had a very busy last couple weeks, including Izzy's first big road trip up to the Okanagan to meet his great grandparents.  Izzy is now smiling! I happened to catch his VERY FIRST SMILE on camera - it's the lopsided grin with him in the striped onesie. Enjoy!

Love,
Melisa, Evan, and Isaac

Izzy Week 4

Hi all!

Here is the next installment of pictures! Isaac is now just over 1 month old. He's starting to change and really look like a little boy (you'll see it in the pics for next week!). He seems to be a "spirited" baby and really likes to eat. Immediately. Although he can be pretty fussy at times we are lucky that he sleeps well during the night. He sleeps in his bassinet in our living room and usually feeds at 10pm, 2 or 3 am, and 6:30 am. I seem to be doing well off these chunks of sleep and don't usually nap during the day. He's also starting to be able to be a little more independent and entertain himself for short 5-10 min chunks. We're lucky that he loves motion - he falls asleep almost instantly in the Baby Bjorn carrier, car seat, or stroller, or when we dance around to music with a good beat!

Love,
Melisa, Evan, and Isaac
